The Copper Newt

Electroforming, Copper & Crystals

My products are all handcrafted, each piece is an original design, made with love and intenion. I use a process called electroforming, a combination of art, alcehmy, science and magic. Electroforming utilizes electricity and an acid bath to deposit and grow a thick copper layer in the places I want it to grow, it can take 24 hours or more for each piece to be completed. The copper forms beautiful textures on the pieces as it sits in the acid bath; grooves and lines form and bumps and nodules grow and embrace the crystals or other items.
Each piece is one of a kind.

Copper
Copper reacts differently with people’s body chemistry and some people experience skin discoloration, usually on the fingers. If you find that copper turns you green, it is a sign that you have an acidic pH. Science suggests the following ways to combat a high acidic pH: increase water, dark fruit and veggie intake, and decrease processed starches and sugars. Your skin will absorb the color, or the slight green tint can be easily washed away with soap and water. It is not an allergic reaction.

Wearing Copper can have many health benefits and it is an essential mineral for all humans. The slow absorption of minerals through the skin helps to ease inflammation and joint pain and detoxify the body. Copper has antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory properties.

When exposed to the elements, copper can react with them, leading to changes on its surface and the finish. Contact with your skin will polish the copper surface over time. DO NOT expose your jewelry to water of any kind (fresh, salt, chlorinated etc). Avoid contact with sweat, oil, perfumes, and hair products.

The hand polish and patina on your piece will not last forever. Depending on how you treat your jewelry, will determine when/if it shines up over time. I do offer the service of reapplying the patina and hand polishing to their original look, for a $20 fee. The customer is responsible for shipping the piece back to my studio for this service.

Crystals are real life treasures from the earth. These are naturally occurring materials, inclusion, fractures, mineral deposits and other irregularities are very common. I have inspected each stone before incorporating it into a piece of jewelry. I do my best to show all angles in my photos, Please review each piece thoroughly before purchase.
